Definitely not politically correct and very funny with a New Zealand based storyline we can all relate to.

Politically correct principal Viv Cleaver (known as ‘Cleavage’ by her staff) is intent on transforming low performing Hautapu High School. The thorn in her side is the Phys-Ed department. Unfit Laurie Connor spends his days in the gym watching TV and gambling with his talented yet unambitious sidekick Pat Kennedy. Then student-teacher Annie Tupua arrives. Could this star netballer and born-again Christian prove to be the game-changer that Viv needs?

Laurie the PE teacher is happy doing what he is doing but the principal wants him out. His sidekick is a deadbeat too but a fit young man. The new teacher is young, healthy and positive and the two male teachers don’t respond well to that. She’s got a dark secret too.
Sparks fly as different players joust for position and battle for each other’s souls in this un-pc, big-hearted comedy set in that most romantic of places – a school gym. Kings of the Gym will have the audience in fits of laughter.

Characters:
• PE teacher Laurie is in his 40s or 50s.
• In his late 20s – early 30s, Pat is a PE teacher in Laurie’s department. He is good natured and reasonably fit.
• School principal Viv could be in her 40s -50s. She is liberal, but efficient, and wants to clean up the lazy PE department.
• Annie is in her 20s/early 30s. A student teacher in the PE department she is a very fit, born-again Christian.
The characters are fairly stereotypical, but Sharren likes that they are all “people we know”

Women’s rugby at its best.

Pam Hooper’s husband Tom spends more time recovering from playing rugby than thinking about her, so she decides to fight fire with fire and forms a women’s rugby team, the Kurinui Bushwackers.

 
“Pack of Girls”. will be needing 6 females and 2 males in the cast and anyone that would like to help out backstage. New faces are always very welcome and appreciated!

Andy has been involved in community theatre in New Plymouth since 1972. During that time he has been involved in many aspects of theatre, including onstage, backstage, administration, and front-of-house.

Andy’s first involvement with New Plymouth Little Theatre was in a revue in the early 70’s, followed by his first onstage role in a panto in 1977. Following a few onstage roles in Pantos, Andy moved his focus to directing plays and Pantos, and administration. Andy first joined the NPLT Committee in 1980 for a two year period. After a break away, Andy rejoined the committee in 1988 and was President for 4 years from 1990 to 1993. Andy has also twice been Adjudicator for NPLT Awards. Firstly in 1998/1999 and then for the period 2015 – 2017.

In addition to involvement with NPLT, Andy was involved with New Plymouth Repertory in the early 70’s onstage, offstage, and at the committee level. Andy has also had significant involvement with New Plymouth Operatic where he is a Life Member, appearing onstage on occasion in earlier years, directing a number of productions, and fulling the role of Production Manager for a number of productions.

To support his theatre habit, Andy has worked at Shell, now OMV, for most of his working life. His greatest support however is from his family (Catherine, Sam & Rebecca) who join him in working shows whenever possible.

UPDATE: The previously announced first place winner of the PANZ Short Play Competition has written to say that he belatedly read the Rules and should now let them know that his play contravenes Rule 8: The play must not have been performed before a paying audience before 1 May 2017.

Shona Wilson, author of our 2016 winter play, ‘Paperless’ has now won first prize in the PANZ short play competition 2017 with her new play, ‘The Gift Shop’. This will be on stage somewhere in NZ alongside the other winning entries. Also, Stratford High School’s drama department will be performing her play for teenagers, ‘Call Me Anna
