New Plymouth Little Theatre proudly presents the New Zealand amateur premiere of
The Full Monty
A play by Simon Beaufoy
Directed by John Lawson
Based on the smash-hit film of the same name, this rip-roaring show is an absolute must-see.
The famous story follows six out of work steelworkers as they have a crack at getting their gear off for cash. The six mates bare their bodies (and sometimes their hearts) as they set out to make money and repair relationships.
This hilarious and heartfelt play is a full-frontal and feel-good night out.

SOCIAL CLIMBERS, hits the stage in April. It was penned by Sir Roger Hall KNZM QSO, who is one of New Zealand’s most successful playwrights, best known for comedies with a vein of social criticism.
His most well-known plays are ‘Glide Time’, which was produced in 1976, and later made for television in New Zealand as ‘Gliding On’, and ‘Middle Age Spread’ which was made into a feature film.
Hall is a pre-eminent observer, with the talent to go beyond the smart one-liners, and often picks on the angst and aggravations of the middle class. From that gentle dig at the public service in ‘Gliding On’, and 1987’s ‘The Share Club’, (the year the markets crashed on Black Friday and Mortifying Monday), to ‘Social Climbers’ in 1995 where five teachers go mad in a tramping hut, and ‘The Book Club’ in 1999.
Lighting! You just wouldn’t believe how the dimmers worked. The dimmers in those days were large glass jars full of saline solution and they had metal plates… Evie Atkinson used to work them on strings. And they used to raise these out of the jars and the lights would dim.
A good prompt will always know… usually you can tell by their eyes, because if someone really needs a prompt, the eyes go absolutely glazed and you can tell the stress…
If you prompt when they don’t want it – you are wrong. If you don’t prompt when they do want it – you are wrong. And if you do the job perfectly no one takes any notice of you and no one knows you are there, at all.
Get your glad rags on because our annual awards night is back!
The Toscars celebrate the truly talented people who create the amazing shows you see on stage at Little Theatre.
We had two wonderful shows last year – Enchanted April by Matthew Barber, directed by Vivienne Baty and A Kick in the Baubles by Gordon Steel, directed by Christine King.
COVID-19 meant we only had two shows last year, but when you consider that most theatres in the world had none, well we’re pretty proud of what our teams achieved.
Adjudicated by Nicci Smith, the 2020 Toscars will feature our yearly awards, as well as entertainment, speeches and some lovely food.
The Toscars are on Saturday May 1 at 7.30pm and tickets are strictly limited. Please RSVP as soon as possible to Christine King on c.king1@xtra.co.nz
